Is King Bhumibol really OK?

The Thai king's health may not have deteriorated, as many people expected, but four days after being admitted to hospital, for what the Royal Household Bureau described as a "routine" check up, Bhumibol Adulyadej remains in Siriraj hospital under strict medical observation.

The media have made a pig's ear of this news event. First it was a "slight" fever. Then, "fatigue and loss of appetite". Then, Bhumibol was on a "drip". Then, the king's treatment was "private" and therefore "secret". Now apparently, the Thai king is "better". But then, so would Anada Mahidol be, if he was pumped full of drugs the way Bhumibol was.

Even so, there are still some Thais who think Bhumibol's "miracle recovery" is nothing but false propaganda, and that the king is still seriously ill. Certainly, if Bhumibol was dead (and I'm not saying he is) the Thai government wouldn't shout it from the roof tops, for fear of creating political unrest in Thailand.

Don't forget, right now in Thailand, rumours abound of yet another military coup. Not to mention the crisis with Cambodia, the Red Shirts rally, etc, etc. Perhaps now is not the time for Bhumibol Adulyadej to pass away. Not "officially", anyway.
